George Johnston and others , financed by Sir William Arrol . Johnston may well have produced his first car in 1894 , perhaps making it the first British car . Chain driven and with a distinctive dog-cart body , this design was retained up to 1906 .
Aster Aster motorcars were built at St Denis , Paris , France on the Seine . Aster was known as a supplier of engines to other manufacturers , including Argyll , Dennis , Swift and Gladiator . An Aster motorcar was exhibited in 1900 at the Paris Salon and a 12hp model at the 1903 Crystal Palace Exhibition .
Autocar Autocars were built in Ardmore , Pennsylvania , USA from 1900 . It may be that from 1901 these were the first American shaft-drive cars with more than one cylinder . Steering remained on the right-hand side until 1905 .
Barré Barré was an automobile manufacturer based in Niort , France . The company was renamed to Barré et Lamberthan and then to SA des Automobiles Barré .
Benz Karl Benz made the first petrol-engined car to run successfully . His factory was situated in Mannheim , Germany from 1885 . His engines were slow running ( less vibration ) and had an ignition system using battery and coil .
Berliet Berliet ’ s first car was completed in 1895 and was constructed in Lyons , France . It was narrow so that he could get it out of the narrow door of the workshop . In 1899 the next premises were so small that the cars were completed on the pavement outside . By 1903 , the business had grown large enough to have an agency in Paris , France .
Bertrand Bertrand et Cie ( Paris 1901-2 ). This short-lived company produced light cars with either 4hp De Dion engines or 6hp Aster engines . A Bertrand won its class in the 1901 Moscow-St Petersburg Trial .
Brennan Brennan Motor Manufacturing Company of Syracuse , New York , USA was a manufacturer of automobile engines . For a brief period from 1902 to 1908 , the company produced the Brennan automobile .
Brown Brown Brothers of London offered motor tricycles and a light steam car from 1899 , but had no manufacturing premises . It offered the American Whitney as a Brown- Whitney and some cars made by Star . Its catalogue stated that almost any kind of engine could be fitted .
Brush The Brush Electrical Engineering Co . Ltd . of Lambeth , London , made motorcars from 1902 , initially using French two-cylinder 10hp Abeille engines coupled to a Sage gearbox – also French . Larger four-cylinder cars followed in 1903 and it started to manufacture its own engines . Production switched to its headquarters in Loughborough in 1904 .

C . G . V Charron , Girardot and Voigt were three successful racing drivers who launched their first car in 1901 from Puteaux , Seine , France . They showed the world ’ s first straight-eight at the 1902 Paris Salon ( no gearbox was fitted ), and in 1902 they produced a car with a 40hp , 8616cc engine .
Cadillac In 1902 , Henry M Leland formed the Cadillac Automobile Company in Detroit , Michigan , USA . Leland had made engines ( Leland and Faulconer ) for Oldsmobile , and then linked with the Henry Ford Company to put his single-cylinder engine into a Model A for the Cadillac Automobile Company . When the association with Ford was broken , Cadillac continued to make the very successful mid-engined Model A into 1904 . This was joined in 1904 by the Model B , which had a dummy bonnet .
Century Century was founded by Ralph Jackson , who initially made three-wheeled forecars in Altrincham , Cheshire , UK , but moved production in 1901 to Willesden in London . It started making four-wheeled cars in 1903 under the governance of Sydney Begbie , who had begun importing Aster engines from France . Englishmade chassis were used with a French gearbox and Aster two-cylinder engines of 8 or 12hp . Larger fourcylinder models were later introduced . They went out of production in 1907 .
Clément Adolphe Clément entered the car business in 1897 after many years making bicycle components and pneumatic tyres in France . By 1900 , he was making the Clément-Panhard car in his factory in Levallois , France , and he was also on the board of Panhard et Levassor , from which he resigned in 1903 . Clément-Talbots were made in London from 1902 and Clément-Bayards were made in Mézières , France in 1903 .
