RAC is teaming with StarterMotor ( pictured top right and second from bottom right )
‘ First we ’ ll be explaining the do ’ s and don ’ ts of working roadside ,’ says Tony Cullum , ‘ and they will be given full personal protective equipment . We ’ ll pair them up with one of our patrols at the start line , and then they will spend a day slowly working their way down to Brighton . It can be a very long day – we have patrols still turning up at Brighton at 5pm . They ’ ll probably see a bit of everything on the day .’
In addition to the youngsters who will be working alongside RAC Motoring Services , StarterMotor will enter four apprentices from the Heritage Skills Academy on the Run itself . Callum Staff , Ashley Carr , Lewis Revell and Tom Lee will be in a 1903 Oldsmobile Curved Dash Runabout , and in the run-up to the event they ’ ve been learning how to drive it and maintain it . Fingers crossed they make it to Brighton with or without the assistance of RAC Motoring Services and its helpers from StarterMotor . Either way , it ’ s a great opportunity to inspire a group of keen youngsters , for whom this could be the first of many London to Brighton Veteran Car Runs . -
