It gives me enormous pleasure to welcome you to the 125th anniversary of the RM Sotheby ’ s London to Brighton Veteran Car Run , the world ’ s longest running motoring event .
There is nothing to rival the history and character of the Run and the Royal Automobile Club is extremely proud to be staging this motoring milestone .
We should pay tribute , once again to those intrepid pioneers of 1896 for their trail-blazing spirit on their historic 60-mile journey to celebrate the passing into law of the Light Locomotives on the Highway Act .
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the participants who have made the commitment to be part of this year ’ s anniversary celebration .
We are extremely grateful for the support and enthusiasm from our title sponsor RM Sotheby ’ s , our partners , patrons and volunteers without whom this magical event would not be able to take place .

It ’ s an absolute pleasure for RM Sotheby ’ s to be the title sponsor of the London to Brighton Veteran Car Run , especially in this landmark 125th anniversary year . The Run is the embodiment of what makes the ‘ old car ’ community so special ; an annual gathering of like-minded people who get together to enjoy their cars as a community of enthusiasts ; to enjoy each other ’ s company and take on a fun , challenging , endeavour . That is the essence of what the ownership of old cars is all about , be they veteran , vintage or post-war . The Run is such a unique event and its continued existence , managed so capably by the Royal Automobile Club , is undoubtedly what makes the ownership of pre-1905 cars so appealing ; and that influence is felt right across the globe .
