Clément-Bayard Adolphe Clément ( latterly renamed Clément-Bayard after the Chevalier Bayard ) was a prolific industrialist who had made an initial fortune in the bicycle industry and moved into motor manufacture through an involvement with Gladiator . He became chairman of Panhard et Levassor in 1900 . He resigned from the boards of both Panhard and Gladiator in order to form Clément-Bayard in 1903 to produce cars under his own name . It made a full range of cars – singles , twins and four cylinders , all with shaft drive . It made all the parts for its own vehicles , except the tyres , using largely American machine tools .
Colliot Colliot was made by Deliry et Fils at Soissons , Aine , France . These voiturettes were noted for having a 4.5 h . p . air-cooled V-twin engine at the front driving through a conventional 4 speed gearbox and chaindrive . A water-cooled model of the same layout was also offered , powered by a 4.5 h . p . De Dion- Bouton engine .
Columbia and Columbia ( electric ) Columbia was an American brand of automobiles produced by a group of companies in the United States . They included the Pope Manufacturing Company of Hartford , Connecticut , the Electric Vehicle Company , and an entity of brief existence in 1899 , the Columbia Automobile Company . At the turn of the Twentieth century , they were producing and selling hundreds of vehicles a year under Pope ’ s Columbia brand name , including the electric models .
Covert Starting in 1902 , Byron Covert made Runabouts with a 3hp single-cylinder engine and chain drive . By 1903 , the Covert had gear drive and 5hp .
Crest and Crestmobile The Crest Manufacturing Company , Massachusetts , USA made ‘ all the parts to construct automobiles ’ and proved it by making one in 1900 . Its Model A was launched in 1901 , a Runabout with straight dash and 2hp air-cooled engine . Shaft drive was adopted in 1903 , and by 1904 the engine was quoted at 8.5hp .
Daimler Gottlieb Daimler was on the first London to Brighton Run in 1896 , and died in 1900 . From 1890 to 1901 , Daimler Motoren was at Cannstatt , and in 1896 in conjunction with Frederick Simms , the Daimler Motor Company started in Coventry . The Prince of Wales took delivery of his first Daimler in 1900 . At this point the cars were still along Panhard lines , but by 1902 a new range appeared designed by Percy Martin , featuring an 8hp twin-cylinder , plus 12 , 16 and 22hp four-cylinder engines .
Darracq From 1896 to 1905 , Sté A Darracq was the name under which André Darracq manufactured cars at Suresnes , Seine , France . After unsuccessfully making fourwheeled Bollées under licence , he employed Paul Ribeyrolles as designer in 1900 , and soon became the second-largest car maker in France after De Dion .
De Dietrich De Dietrich was making cars and commercial vehicles under licence from Amédée Bollée in 1897 with tube ignition and belt drive , then Panhard-style cars in the shape of the Turcat-Mery . The German branch of the company persuaded Ettore Bugatti to design its next offering , an association that ceased in 1904 .
De Dion Bouton Comte de Dion supplied the money , and George Bouton was the engineer in Puteaux , Seine , France . They developed very small petrol engines and these were fitted to bicycle frames . This led to a fourwheeler that developed into the popular vis-à-vis in 1900 , which had a water-cooled engine under the driver ’ s seat , driving the rear wheels . For 1903 , the engine was moved to the front under a bonnet , to create the Populaire . In 1900 , the company claimed 20,000 engines were in service , and by 1902 the estimate was more than 30,000 .
Decauville Decauville was based at Seine-et-Oise , France , and produced a small car powered by two 1.75hp De Dion engines on the same crankcase mounted under the seat , called a voiturelle . By 1900 , the engine was moved to the front , with a round bonnet and dashboard radiator .
