A Princess’ Evening Bag
Stylish and temperamental La Toussaint was the famous member of the House of Cartier. She designed handbags and adored panthers, making their name synonymous with success. Barbara Hutton, one of the world’ s richest women at the time, was so taken with the panther clasp that she proceeded to commission a clasp of her own, a tiger clasp that would be her‘ signature’. That’ s why a gold-and-onyx tiger clasp graces this evening bag decorated with an‘ N’ of diamonds, made as a gift for Hutton’ s sister-in-law, Princess Nina Mdivani in 1961, Paris.
