Bradley Garnett
Hotels Group Revenue Manager | SKYCITY Entertainment Group Ltd
I
developed a taste for hospitality and tourism , while working in a restaurant part time throughout high school . This constant communication with customers and tourists gave me the desire to seek a career in hospitality and tourism . While completing a Diploma in Hospitality Management , I was a part time Porter at Auckland ’ s Crowne Plaza Hotel , over two years I was promoted twice , the first to a Guest Service Agent , and then upon successfully graduating Auckland University of Technology ( AUT ), to a Reservations Agent .
I made the decision to relocate to Australia and I was employed for three years at the Mercure and Ibis Hotels in Brisbane as the Reservations Groups Coordinator . Whilst working for Accor in Brisbane I was awarded with the Employee of the Month Award twice , which let to been nominated for Employee of the Year both times . During this time I was able to travel throughout Europe for three months which gave me great exposure to a range of nationalities , cultures and hospitality and tourism experiences .
Upon returning to Auckland in 2010 , I was employed by SKYCITY as the Reservations Groups Coordinator for SKYCITY Hotel and SKYCITY Grand Hotel . During my time in this role I managed group accommodation for the 2011 Rugby World Cup for both SKYCITY Hotels and in August 2012 I was seconded into a maternity cover role as the Hotels Group Revenue Manager .
In August 2013 the Revenue Manager role was made permanent and I was also given the responsibility of managing the SKYCITY Contact Centre , a team of 25 staff members , handling around 2500 daily touch points for SKYCITY Auckland site wide including hotel and restaurant reservations .
I have made a point of not letting my current role be desk bound , traditionally common for Revenue roles , and I am an active member of Tourism Export Council and attend events such as TRENZ and MEETINGS . Whilst my passion lies within Revenue Management and hotels , I see these memberships and events as a chance to establish relationships within the industry and also continue my learning of the wider tourism sector , giving me insights that he can bring back to his revenue management role . It is also a chance to get in front of the wider industry and explain Revenue Management and the importance of the role .
Before taking on the Revenue Management role at SKYCITY , I had not thought of a career in this field , however now after three plus years in the role and understanding all that the role can encompass I am extremely passionate about the field and excited what the future holds for not only myself , but also the Revenue Management role in general .
