A
hotelier’s utopia is surely ‘delighted
guests while, at the same time, generating
increased revenue and increasing profits’.
But achieving this often proves elusive
and, as such, many hoteliers unfortunately
still consider the Property Management
System (“PMS”) to be a cost centre.
In the modern world, where
competitors have access to a range of
cloud based technologies, it’s no longer
(good) enough just to think that the
PMS controls a few key core functions like guest
registration, inventory maintenance, housekeeping,
and finance.
The key findings from recent surveys indicate that
well over 90% of respondents consider:
• using guest profile information to improve the
overall guest experience and increase retention
through loyalty and rewards programs is
‘important’ or ‘very important’, and
• that PMS integration with different technologies to
create a ‘command and control centre’ with a
360-degree view of operations is ‘important’ or
‘very important’.
On the flip side, findings from the same surveys,
found that less than 40% of respondents from large,
full-service hotels currently use a PMS to manage five or
more functions.
