ACCORDING TO ANOTHER STORY, THE SPOONMAKER’S DIAMOND
GETS SOLD BY THE LETIZIA ROMALINO IN ORDER TO SAVE HIS SON
NAPOLEON AFTER HIS EXILE TO ELBA.
Another story on the origin of the diamond
is as interesting as the first one. Son of a family
migrated to the Balkans from Kayseri, Ali Pasha
of Tepelena receives attention of the Palace in
the lawless situation of the Balkans and rises
through ranks quickly. Around that time, The
Spoonmaker’s Diamond gets sold by the Letizia
Romalino in order to save his son Napoleon after
his exile to Elba. A servant of the Pasha in France
buys it for 150.000 gold and brings the diamond
to Pasha. After a while Pasha’s death sentence
was given by the Palace and Pasha’s treasure as
well as Spoonmaker’s Diamond get moved to the
treasury.
There are couple of other stories told other
than these two. A logical way to explain origin
of the diamond’s name is that since the shape of
diamond. Oval cut shape and spoon-like convex
geometry may be the answer.
For many centuries, the Spoonmaker’s
Diamond was the most prized piece of the
Palace’s collection and the treasury, but its origin
stil l remains a mystery. Nevertheless, every
year hundreds of thousands of visitors see the
diamond and are completely dazzled. We should
count ourselves lucky to have such an exquisite
gem on earth.

sürüldüğü dönemde annesi Letizia Ramolino,
bir süre önce satın aldığı 86 karatlık Kaşıkçı Elması’nı oğlunu kurtarmak için satılığa çıkartır.
Kayseri'den Balkanlara göç etmiş bir ailenin çocuğu olan, gözü kara oluşuyla sarayın dikkatini
çeken ve hızla yükselerek paşa olan Tepedelenli
Ali Paşa’nın o sırada Fransa’da bulunan bir adamı, elması 150.000 altına satın alır ve paşaya getirir. Bir süre sonra paşanın öldürülüp mal varlığına el konulmasıyla da bu muhteşem mücevher,
hazineye dahil olur.
Bu iki rivayetten başka anlatılan hikayeler de
vardır. Mantığa hitap eden bir çıkarım, elmasın
isminin şeklinden kaynaklandığıdır. Oval biçimde kesilmiş ve kaşığı andıran bombeli şekli, isminin çıkış noktası gibi gözükmekte.
Yüzyıllardır saray hazinesinin gözbebeği
olan Kaşıkçı Elması’nın saraya gerçekten nasıl
geldiği gizemini hala korumakta. Kesin olan şey
ise her yıl, yüzbinlerce ziyaretçisini gözalıcılığıyla
büyüleyen bu mücevhere sahip olduğumuz için
şanslı olduğumuz.
