he word “luxury” conjures up different
images for different people, but in general,
a luxurious object can be defined as a design
that is perhaps created through excellent
craftsmanship or simply something that is
hard to come by. The Victoria and Albert
Museum of London takes the whole
concept of “luxury” for a spin in its latest
exhibition. “What is Luxury?” features over
100 “luxury” objects, including everything
from a diamond made out of roadkill to
furniture and various accessories that have
a distinctive feeling.
The “What is Luxury?” exhibit aims
to analyze and expand understandings of
luxury by presenting exceptional examples
of contemporary design and craftsmanship
alongside conceptual projects which
question fundamental ideas of luxury, its
production and future.

çağrıştırır; fakat pek çok insan, mükemmel işçilikle üretilmiş bir obje ya da nadir
bulunan bir nesneyi “lüks” olarak tanımayabilir. Bu geniş kavramdan yola çıkan
Victoria and Albert Museum “What is
Luxury?” isimli sergisinde “lüks” kelimesini bir çok yönüyle değerlendiriyor. Sergi;
yol kenarındaki ölü hayvanlardan üretilmiş
elmastan, farklı bir havası olan mobilya ve
aksesuarlara kadar 100 adet “lüks” objeyi
meraklılarına sunuyor.
“What is Luxury?” sıra dışı güncel tasarımlardan ve projelerden yola çıkarak temel lüks anlayışını, lüks üretimi ve lüksün
geleceğini sorgularken bir yandan da konseptler üzerine yoğunlaşarak zihinlerdeki
lüks kavramının sınırlarını genişletmeyi
hedefliyor.
