In the last week of November,
Shrewsbury’s Senior School pro-
duction brought “Once upon a
time” right into the present, as au-
diences were treated to three out-
standing performances of the
Grimm Tales. After months of
preparation, nearly 140 students
finally had their chance to shine on
the Memorial Hall stage, as they
brought to life seven beloved fairy
-tales, ranging from Little Red Rid-
ing Hood to The Juniper Tree to
Faithful Johannes.
Throughout the three perform-
ance nights, budding actors from
Year 7-13, brought a palpable and
relentless energy to the stage,
lifted further by the enthusiasm
and support of excellence audi-
ences, excited and eager to be
taken on fantastical journey
through the Grimm Brother’s
imagination. And whilst that
meant encountering monstrous
creatures, squawking crows, slith-
ering snakes and the depths of
human depravity, it was the
themes hope and perseverance
that shone through, just at Broth-
ers’ Grimm intended.
The Drama Department is incredi-
bly proud of everyone involved in
the production. They demon-
strated determination, motivation
and incredible passion for their
craft, and in bringing these well-
known tales to life, also ensured
that they a uniquely Shrewsbury
twist. Since September, students
have given up their lunch-times,
evenings and weekends as they
committed to an even more inten-
sive rehearsal process than usual.
And it was no surprise to Ms Sand-
ers, Ms Oxlade and Ms Scrivener,
or indeed any of their fellow direc-
tors Ms Ehlers, Ms Butler, and Mr.
West, that when show week ar-
rived cast and crew showed such
tremendous support for each
other to ensure each evening’s
performance was professionally
presented.
The Grimm Brother’s tales have
brought a magical atmosphere
into the school and we hope that
the cast and crew enjoy the
memories they have created for
their own “happily ever afters”.
