MUSIC HIGHLIGHTS SHREWSBURY INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL CLASSY PERFORMANCE SETS THE TONE FOR SPEECH DAY As Shewsbury prepared to celebrate the success and achievements of students across the school, our ensembles, orchestras and choirs gathered to perform in the traditional Eve of Speech Day Concert. The varied programme, which included pieces ranging from Palestrina to Katy Perry, was a perfect display of the versatility and talent of our young musicians, and a fitting tribute to those Year 13 students taking to the Memorial Hall stage for the very last time. An undoubted highlight of the evening was the Piano Ensemble’s performance of Lavignac’s Galop-March ‘A Huit Magnac’; a piece for four players at just one piano, once again delivered, as at last term’s Colours of Spring Concert, with fantastic showmanship and skill by quartet Bambi, Miku, Mos and Mel. At the end of term they will be flying to America as part of a 40-strong group of Shrewsbury musicians, for a 10-day music tour of the East Coast. Amongst the concert venues now confirmed in an amazing itinerary of performances and sightseeing will be New York’s “Trump Tower” (of ‘The Apprentice’ fame) on 6th July, Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum on 7th July, St. Malachy’s Church on 8th July, the UN Headquarters on 9th July, and Boston’s Assembly Row (12th July) and Faneuil Hall (13th July).  Meanwhile, a number of Shrewsbury pianists have continued to blaze their own international trail in recent months, to perform in concerts and competitions in Japan, the USA and here in Thailand. Music Scholar Eve (Y8) participated in the American Protégé Concert at the Weill Recital Hall, Carnegie Hall, New York. Eve and her piano partner were awarded first place in the Duet competition and Eve received 2nd place in the Solo Competition. In addition, Eve was placed 2nd in the 3rd Siam International piano competition where she received a cash award and recognition as the Youngest finalists, as well as the Sonata Award. Our congratulations go to Eve on her wonderful achievements. Also participating in the 3rd Siam International competition were Jelly (Y3), Proud, (Y3), Chicha (Y5) and Purse (Y4), who was awarded 3rd Prize and Best Complimentary Piece, a tremendous result. Miku (Y10) participated in the high profile Martha Argrerich Festival in Beppu, Japan. Martha Argreric
