SPORTS HIGHLIGHTS
SHREWSBURY INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL
In the last week of term, SISBAA hosted 5 separate sporting competitions, with current
and former students competing alongside and against staff members. In the Volleyball
there was a win for the Sixth Form team, whilst the staff team enjoyed success in the
touch rugby competition,
In the basketball competition there was a win for the Grandma’s (Class of 2010-2015),
and for the Class of 2016 Boys team, whilst in the golf, the trio of Muffin, Wit and Annie
(now at University of Nebraska) won the deciding playoff against Mr. Edmunds, Mr. Turk-
ington and M.
The football was equally tight as alumni team from Shrewsbury (UK) showed their class
in a penalty shoot out against the staff A team to take the title; the trophy ultimately
lifted by Giles Holroyd!
Thanks to Associate Director of Alumni Relations, Mr. Stuart Markes for coordinating all
the sporting events, and thank you to all of our alumni for their brilliant participation.
HOI AN A’HOY: JIA SAILS IN VIETNAM OPEN
SHB Sailing Captain Jia travelled to Vietnam in June to
take part in the Vietnam Sailing Open Championships
near Da Nang. At the centre of the event is the RS One
(windsurf) World ChJia was Thaialnd’s sole representa-
tive in the Optimist Class, was racing alongside 21
other sailors from Germany, Malaysia, Myanmar and
Vietnam.
Over 5 days of competition, Jia completed 12 races, fin-
ishing in 8th place overall (6th placed boy), and having
learned a lot from racing in different conditions and
from the many other experienced sailors that took part in the competition; valuable experience that may
one day help Jia to fulfill his dream of participating in the Olympics.
Whilst in the area, Jia also visited the UNESCO World Heritage town of Hoi An, a place that clearly left a
very positive impression on him.
