EVALUATION
For my project I decided to create an athleisure range for the Cara Delevingne X River Island collaboration. I wanted to focus on my buying and marketing subjects as I want a career within these areas of the fashion industry. My aims were to create a range plan, comparative shop report, joomag, trend analysis, customer profile, look book, online and offline marketing campaigns and social media.
I believe I have done really well in this project as I have focused on time keeping and have completed all the buying and marketing tasks I had set out to do. At the beginning of the project I was stuck with what retailer and celebrity to focus on, after getting advice from friends and researching previous collaborations I finally came to a decision to focus on River Island and Cara Delevingne. To make sure I kept up to date with all the work I focused on completing the time consuming tasks at the start of my project.
My strengths from the project is that I managed my time well with completing the main tasks for buying and marketing which meant I was able to add extra work into my joomag. I completed my comparative shops, range plans and trend mood boards for buying at the beginning of my project. Therefore, I added the sourcing strategies and distribution strategies. I also completed the social media posts, marketing strategies and articles for marketing with time to spare. So I included KPI’s, marketing mix, PESTLE and SWOT analysis.
Another strength is that I have learnt how to use other websites for researching and creating content such as Ad Parlour, WGSN, Fashion Snoops and ACORN. This was very useful as it made my work professional and gave me inspiration for my collection. I also learnt how to use Joomag, in term 1 I really struggled with my presentation and it was very time consuming. I surprised myself as I had learnt from previous mistakes with how to use joomag and I found it easier to create a magazine.
My biggest problem I faced during my project was referencing images. I had included hundreds of pictures and was five weeks into my project when I realised that I had to reference them in the Harvard format. This meant that I had lost a lot of time when I could have been focusing on my marketing tasks. After learning that I had to reference the images, whenever I added a new image I was quick to reference it.
I also did not get enough time with my tutor as much as the other students in my class. My tutor only teaches on a Friday for 1 hour whereas the other tutors are here for 2 hours on a Tuesday and a Friday. Therefore, there were times when I was stuck with my project as to what to include next and I had to wait a few days before I could see my tutor for support. However, I was able to talk to my other tutors in lessons who specialised in buying and marketing. When I saw my tutor on a Friday she was very supportive and gave me a lot of advice on how to improve.
I made a few changes to my project, for example when I first started my project I
had set out to present my work in a PowerPoint. However, after talking to my tutor I decided to create a Joomag to showcase all of my work. The layout was time consuming but it made my work look more professional and clear.
If I was to do the project again, I would begin referencing my images as I went along with the project so I would not have to waste time looking up the image in google to get a reference. I would also plan more thoroughly so I know what tasks to do for each subject as I had to keep talking to my tutors.
Overall, I really enjoyed this project and worked extremely hard. I have now developed a wider skill set which will be useful for working in buying or marketing.
