CARA DELEVINGNE Q&A

Cara Delevingne has been a key influencer of fashion since her 2012 debut as the face of Burberry’s spring/summer campaign. She began modelling at age 10 and signed up to STORM models. Since then she has worked with Chanel, Burberry, Dolce & Gabbana, Oscar de la Renta and Mulberry. Her most recent collaboration is with River Island for her SS17 collection.

I met Cara at the River Island HQ to ask her about the collaboration.

What was your inspiration for this collection?

I wanted to create a collection that reflected my personality and style. That is why I was so intrigued in creating an athleisure range. River Island announced their active wear about a year ago and I wanted to make it more trendy and fashionable for the streets. I love colour and it is summer soon so I wanted a lot of colour blocking with geometric patterns to make it stand out.

Describe the collection in three words.

Colourful, Edgy and Unique.

Describe London in three words.

Inspiring, Energetic and Multicultural.

What do you love most about the collection?

I love that everything works well together for building an outfit. I can wear leggings, bralet, crop top and parka all as one outfit. My favourite part is having my name on the tops and leggings for the branding pattern, I think that is pretty cool. I honestly would wear everything that I have helped design for this collection.

What is your favourite piece from the range?

I cannot choose one piece from the collection as I LOVE it all.

What women do you see buying your collection?

I have a big social media following which is mostly made up of young girls aged 14-25, therefore we targeted this collection for teenagers and young adults.

Would you design a bigger range by including accessories?

I just wanted to focus on the basics of clothing for my first collection, but in the future I would love to make a range which includes accessories.

What is your future within the fashion industry?

I would love to have my own clothing line separate to collaborating with other retailers, I would like it all to be my own. I am just grateful for everything that has happened so far that I am just living life within the present moment and just seeing what happens.
