a story about body image edia egative The media, a world of its own full of stories, images, videos and celebrities. A society that grabs more and more people each day. A tool which merely focuses on the good and spotlights the bad. Young boys and girls are constantly in touch with the virtual universe of social media, sending images through Snapchat, documenting their daily occurrences on Facebook, and even reblogging on Tumblr. As great as social media is, it has its downsides, cyber bulling is becoming more prominent, as bullies have stepped up their game and have taken to the keyboard to sprawl abuse at unsuspected victims. Photoshop is the enemy, a photo manipulation tool, which make things way too good to be true. Size 0 super models pictured in skimpy clothes all over fashion magazines stare into the eyes of girls as young as 11. Before young girls bodies have even started changing through puberty they are influenced by an idea that this is “beautiful”. The word beautiful is a broad term and can relate to a few thousand things, but I believe in this sense beauty is feeling comfortable in your own skin. Anorexia is a severe eating disorder, eating disorders are not beautiful, you are on the verge of dying. The media romanticises the idea of seeing bones through clothing items, and young girls copy. Some fashion runways have banned models from their runways if they are not a size 4 and under. I believe this type of discrimination is absolutely appalling. If I was a fashion designer I would want to show off all sorts of body shapes to explain and show to girls that your body is beautiful no matter what size you are. 29
