Abstract
Little new information has been published in over 100 years concerning the years leading up to the formation of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite . The loss of many of the original records further complicates the study of the associated primary sources . Several new and exciting sources along with fresh analysis provides a clearer picture of what happened . The focus has now shifted to the French speaking Charleston Lodge La Candeur and has yielded a trove of new information . Chiefly amongst these new discoveries are the ritual book and minute book of the lodge , which fills in the blank spots of our understanding . The analysis of the Constitutions of 1762 , the governing documents of the Order of the Royal Secret , the predecessor of the Rite shows an approximate time frame when the change began to take place .
