Stuart comeback seem to have diminished and given way to a wider dissemination of his political and religious ideas , even though they went against the new ideas of the Enlightenment . Ramsay was no longer a convinced Jacobite , and the spreading of his ideas was assured by his best-selling work of the time , The Travels of Cyrus , as well as thanks to the relations he established with prominent persons on both sides of the Channel . But , in particular , he gained a new and very efficient platform for his ideas in the form of Freemasonry .
