Canadians spend more time
online, on average, than
people in any other country in
the world, yet most are failing
to take basic steps to protect
themselves from cyberattack,
identity theft and fraud. 28
A 2018 report by McAfee
found that the global economic
impact of cybercrime
increased to between $600
billion and $800 billion a
year. 2 The report states that
cybercrime is “just too easy
and too rewarding.”
