FARM INSURANCE IN SAFE HANDS “A BIG PART OF REINHARDT’S ROLE IS TO INSURE AGAINST A CATASTROPHIC LOSS, SUCH AS A MAJOR FIRE OR POWER INTERRUPTION.” Your Farm Insurance Is In Safe Hands C oming from a farming family, Lorraine Reinhardt sees the work she does with T.J. Enterprises Canada, a swine farming operation, as a perfect fit. Reinhardt, a broker with Miller Insurance, began representing T.J. Enterprises, which is owned by husband- and-wife t eam Terry Curran and Lucy D’Arcey, way back in 1998. The couple’s swine farm also includes a cow-calf division and commercial rental properties, all of which Reinhardt insures. A farm owner for over twenty years with deep roots in the community, Reinhardt has been a critical resource to the couple for all insurance-related questions. Reinhardt works closely with Curran and D’Arcey on a regular basis to ensure that their coverage is always up-to-date. Their coverage falls into the “non- owned livestock” category as young pigs—provided to them by a supplier—are nurtured by T.J. Enterprises until they are ready for breeding. “Communication is definitely the most important aspect of the job,” says Reinhardt. “We meet or email regularly to make sure I am aware of any changes in their situation as well as discuss any new insurance products and services that may benefit their operation.” She cites as an example the recent water endorsement they added for their home, which covers claims and damage due to water infiltration. A big part of Reinhardt’s role is to insure against a catastrophic loss, such as a major fire or power interruption. This type of policy would cover exposures such as loss of income or profits, total barn replacement, and liability coverage to include non-owned livestock. Reinhardt views her end goal as getting the insured back to the same position they were in prior to the loss. In addition to farm property insurance, she also provides liability, auto, and commercial insurance for the family. Reinhardt takes great pains to keep up-to-date with the products offered by insurance companies to ensure that she is offering the best coverage possible at a reasonable price. She also follows up with the insureds on the annual loss-prevention recommendation letter provided by their insurance company, carefully reviewing any required changes and following through with Curran and D’Arcey . For example, she reminds them that they must have an electrician come and inspect their electrical system each year, checking the electrical joints for possible corrosion and to replace parts wherever needed. As part of her job at Miller Insurance, Reinhardt handles all types of commercial coverage, including restaurants, construction, manufacturing, and retail, but she maintains an especially soft spot for her farming clients. “I enjoy working with the farming clientele as I can relate to their individual business operations and offer a policy that will insure their Agricultural Insurance needs.” she says.+ Lorraine Reinhardt has been a Licensed Insurance Broker for over 20 years. Lorraine and her husband Carl own a farm near Lucknow, Ontario. They have 4 grown children and 7 grandchildren. You can reach her at 519-392-8565 or [email protected] 29
