I’m sure many of you in our region are enjoying the outdoor activities the North has to offer during this time of year. This edition of Gillons Insurance Risk & Business Magazine features a focus on the forestry sector in our area and our Gillons program. The region’s forest products are valued at more than $3 billion a year, and the industry provides more than 15,000 jobs. Our Gillons Forestry Program has been stable for over 20 years, insuring small to large contractors in the harvesting, road building, and hauling sectors. We intend to build on the success of this program and support this longstanding industry. Another evolving area we’re seeing in the insurance industry is cyber exposures and coverages. As more data is managed online, new risks are emerging that affect businesses, organizations, and individuals. Seventy percent of Canadian businesses have been victims of cyber-attacks, and the average cost is $15,000 per incident. Our specialists have been continually training on the new coverages in this area and the steps to take towards implementing a Cyber Security Program. Gillons is also offering Cyber “Lunch & Learn” events in 2019 to inform businesses and organizations in our area of these new risks. Dates and locations will be announced early in the New Year. In 2018, we completed our Strategic Marketing Plan, solidifying our brand’s direction. Managing the risks of our Northern region and providing personalized service to our clients continue to be at the forefront of our core values. Community involvement and supporting community initiatives in our region are also an important part of our brand and who we are. We always make it a priority to volunteer or provide sponsorships where we can. We’ve had a great summer of volunteering at community events, participating with and sponsoring local sports teams, and hosting some of our own customer appreciation events. We have a lot of volunteering activities planned throughout the winter months and are looking forward to seeing our fellow community members out at these events. As always, I’d like to thank our existing customer base. Without you, it wouldn’t be possible to support and give back to the great initiatives we are committed to in the North. As the insurance industry evolves, we continually keep up to date with new products, coverages, and market changes to best advise our customers. Do not hesitate to bring forward questions or concerns to one of our specialists. Have a great winter season, drive safe, and take part in all the activities our area has to offer.
