Welcome to our 4th edition of Risk & Business Magazine and Part II of “ If It Rolls , We Insure It !” In this issue we ’ ll explore more interesting and inspiring stories of Maine businesses reliant on ‘ The Wheel ’ and the industry it brings . And as usual , there are numerous general business articles written by R & B consultants to provide insight , ideas and information to help you grow your business .
Many of our favorite recreational activities are made possible with a wheel . A direct reflection of man ’ s greatest circular invention is the bicycle ! First developed in early 1800 ’ s as a novel and new means of transport , the bicycle and later the motor bicycle ( circa 1885 ) have gone far beyond utility uses . With many shapes and sizes , these two wheeled contraptions are now a major recreational pastime . Another not so conspicuous activity requiring the wheel , is snowmobiling and skiing . Groomers , lifts , treads and tracks all require this nifty round widget to function properly thus providing hours of lasting enjoyment and creating economy for us here in Maine .
You will learn how core industries long reliant on the wheel have changed dramatically here in Maine ; Forestry and Agriculture . But like the wheel itself , they show an enduring resilience and will stand the test of time as our creative and ingenious industrialists are finding new ways to re-invent these industries into prosperous businesses .
A big ‘ Thank You ’ to all willing to participate in this season ’ s edition of Risk & Business ! I am once again impressed with the positive energy and enthusiasm to keep Maine ’ s economy going .
Sincerely ,
WELCOME
