W
elcome to the spring 2016 issue of Cooke Insurance
Risk & Business. There are a number of hotbed issues
that we want to bring to your attention in this issue.
An important issue we cover on page 7 is cyber liability and
insurance. The increased utilization of cyber tools and cloud
storage can expose businesses to risk, particularly when it
comes to privacy and customer information. One thing to
keep in mind is that standard liability policies typically do not
cover cyber incidents and, thus, an additional policy is often
required.
We also want to bring to light information about the Canadian
Anti-Spam Law (CASL). This is particularly important for
businesses who communicate with their customers via
email and the pending legislation is set to become law on
July 1, 2017. This legislation will have a negative impact on
Atlantic Canadian businesses. The intent, of course, is not
to punish anyone, but the ins and outs of the law create
issues for businesses who operate in the retail space, sell, and
communicate online. On page 6, you will find a complete
overview of this issue.
As always, we hope you find the information in here useful
as an educational tool. Staying informed is the first step to
growing your business.
Sincerely,
