The Bad and Good News:

Reducing our emissions would help slow the rate of sea-level rise — but at this point, it's unlikely that we could stop further rises altogether. We're going to need to adapt to sea-level rise no matter what we do to carbon emissions and switch to clean energy. That said, cutting emissions can make a significant difference this century. Just because we can’t stop sea level rise altogether doesn’t mean we should stop all efforts to slow it down. A change in a couple feet of sea level rise will have a significant change on habitats, homes, economies, likelihood of flooding and severity of storms. Therefore is crucial that we work as hard as we can to combat global warming even though our best efforts won't be able to stop sea level rise altogether. (Plumer, 2012)
