Being a Catholic has never been easy it is why people died for this very faith. We on the other hand want the easy side, we happily declare our faith in the excitement of choosing a new Pope excitedly tracking the appearance of the white smoke, but when that vey pope says do not use artificial contraceptives, we secretly disobey him. When the Pope asks us to dress decently, focus on building family life, we secretly disobey him. We pick and choose articles of our faith as if we are in a supermarket. I heard it said somewhere, that the greatest fear of the enemies of the Church is that Catholics will begin to earnestly practice their faith. In practicing their faith the early Christians brought about huge changes in the societies where they lived. We take for granted concepts like mercy and forgiveness not realising that these are fundamentally Christian virtues and before Jesus introduced these, people were given to revenge. It is Christians who perpetuated the idea of forgiving such that today we can now say “I am sorry”. More important, are you and I promoting these Christian values or have we been carried away by the pagan lifestyle we see around us. Of course none of us is perfect and we are all trying, but my concern is about those who are not even trying. The CINOs who go to church on Sunday and the rest of the time do what suit them.
