Obedience is the key to happiness
In a small village in Meru there lived a man named Murungi Munjuri who owned a donkey called Mnkoro. Munjuri was a kind master but Mnkoro was a lazy donkey and did not want to work hard. He would try all sorts of tricks to avoid work. Mnkoro was very cunning so every time his master was transporting sacks of salt, he would wait until they were crossing the river then he would fall in the water. This dissolved the salt making the load lighter. Mnkoro the donkey did this for a very long time and he would purposely fall into the river each time. Munjuri his master was unhappy; he would make loses every time Mnkoro fell into the water; he would arrive at the market with less salt. So he decided to teach Mnkoro a lesson. One day instead of carrying bags of salt he loaded Mnkoro with bags of cotton. Mnkoro noticed the load was slightly lighter but being a lazy donkey he still went ahead and purposefully fell into the water. He was surprised to find the load unbearable. This time the master was not kind, he started beating Mnkoro to move on. The lazy donkey learnt his lesson and started behaving well.
