Brother Rice Introduces the
Warrior Medical Association
men received didn’t just prepare them
for any one aspect of life — it prepared
them for every aspect. By putting an
emphasis on the “soul, mind and body”,
Brother Rice helps mold young Warriors
everyday into complete young men.
The eclectic variety in these doctors’
activities before, during and after
college and medical school, shows
how the importance of the “soul, mind
and body” education shaped them in
unique ways.
Just like the current class of Warriors,
these doctors all walked the halls of
7101 Lahser. Brother Rice taught them
to strive for excellence, and excellence
was what they achieved. Brother Rice
is committed to nurturing the future
generation of doctors.
The new
Science & Engineering Wing now in
development will provide a training
ground for these rising medical leaders.
While teachers come and go and
students graduate, the Band of Brothers
is one thing that will always remain. As
more and more graduates enter the
medical profession, they should know
they’re joining a special group:
Warriors in Medicine.
Following the lead of the Brother
Rice Business Alliance and the
Warrior Bar Association, Dr. Jim
Fontanessi ’74 has formed
the WMA for Rice graduates to
network with fellow Alumni
doctors and mentor the
next generation of Warriors
in medicine. An oncologist
at Beaumont Hospital, Dr.
Fontanessi is also the Brother
Rice JV football coach. The
inspiration for the group came during the football season. “We had a
few injuries this year. As we worked with the training staff to try to find
the best doctor available, we often found that many of the referrals
were to a Brother Rice grad.”
This sparked Dr. Fontanessi to approach Director of Alumni Dan
McGrath ’96 with his idea for a networking group. McGrath said, “It
is a great idea. We have hundreds of doctors and dentists that have
graduated from Brother Rice and every year we have students that
want to go into medicine. It just makes sense to organize them to
support and refer patients to each other and work with our young
alums.” Alumni doctors are asked to register online to be a part of the
