The 66th annual AuSable River Canoe
Marathon was held on July 22-27, and
John Carroll ’68 (owner of Carroll
Broadcasting in Tawas City (WKJC 104.7,
WKJZ 94.9, WQLB 103.3 and WIOS
AM1480) and Jerry Coyne ‘77 (owner of
Blarney Stone Broadcasting of Grayling
WQON 100.3, WGRY FM 101.1 and WGRY
AM 1270) partnered up to be the official
radio stations of the event. Carroll said,
“It’s great to team up with Jerry, two
Brother Rice grads, to deliver start-tofinish coverage of the toughest canoe
race in North America and the toughest
spectator sport in the world.”

pAfter graduating from the University
of Michigan undergrad and law school,
Robert Aicher ’69 and his wife Carol
lived in Chicago and Manhattan for 37
years. In 2011 the couple retired to Lake
Leelanau, MI.

pJohn Hildebrand ’67 is a Professor
Emeritus at the University of WisconsinEau Claire. He still teaches courses on the
short story and American Literature, and
has published three books: Reading the
River, Mapping the Farm and A Northern
Front. The Heart of Things will be published
soon.
Robert Faught ’66 is currently living in
the Philadelphia area where he is the CEO
of SmartHome Ventures, having retired
from Comcast/NBC after many years of
service. He has four children and two
granddaughters.
The Edmund T. Ahee Jewel Award for
Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser will be
presented to Jeff Bergeron ’71, who is
Managing Partner of the Detroit office of
Ernst & Young. He has more than 35 years
experience and client service in a variety
of industries and began his work with the
United Way for Southeastern Michigan in
1999.
Robert Cefai ’71 retired in 2010 at age 57,
after 20 years of working with AT&T as an
outside maintenance-splicing technician.
He attended Oakland University and
currently resides in West Hollywood, CA.

After graduating from Michigan Tech,
Christopher Nagel ’76 went to work for
the US Steel Corporation in Gary, IN. After
earning his doctorate from MIT in chemical
engineering and co-founding a series of
high-tech companies, his current efforts
entail exploring the geometry of space
and light with commercial applications
to sustainable development. He has been
married for 30 years and has 4 children, the
oldest who’s now a freshman at Vanderbilt
University.
Musician and teacher Drew Kaptur ’74
recently visited Robert Jones and gave
a short concert . Jones was the Principal
Trombonist of the Detroit Symphony
Orchestra during the 1940’s and taught
brass students for many years at Detroit
area schools, including Brother Rice.
Mark Wojciechowski ‘72 has been named
a partner at Morrison & Foerster LLP in New
York. Mark is a highly regarded finance
lawyer with more than three decades of
experience handling complex financing
and M&A transactions for commercial
and investment banks, investment funds
and public and private companies. He
earned his law degree, cum laude, from
Indiana University and his undergraduate
degree from Columbia University. Mark is
another one of our legacy of leaders in the
business world and is making The Warrior
Difference.
