University of Detroit Mercy President Dr. Antoine M. Garibaldi
Joins the Brother Rice High School Board of Directors
Brother Rice High School is pleased to announce that
the University of Detroit Mercy President Antoine M.
Garibaldi, Ph.D. recently accepted a position to serve
on its Board of Directors. “Dr. Garibaldi brings a wealth
of experience in education through his professional
positions and board work to our team,” said President
John Birney. “Brother Rice is pleased to have his insight,
experience and passion for academic excellence in
our board room. This is an opportunity for our school
to benefit from the unique perspective a University
President will offer.”
Dr. Garibaldi is nationally recognized for his more
than three decades of teaching, scholarly work and
administrative experience in education and the federal
government. Prior to joining University of Detroit Mercy
in June 2011, he was President of Gannon University
for nine and a half years. He is the first lay president
of the University of Detroit and a tenured Professor of
Education. Dr. Garibaldi is a Fellow of both the American
Psychological Association and the American Educational
Research Association and the author of eleven books and
more than 85 research articles and chapters. He serves
on the boards of several local and national organizations
and universities. Locally, he is on the Boards of Directors
of the Detroit Institute of the Arts and New Detroit.
He had served as a member of Brother Rice High
School’s Human Resources Committee and now officially
joins the Board for a three year term. “I am honored to
join the Board of Directors,” said Dr. Antoine M. Garibaldi,
president of University of Detroit Mercy. “Brother Rice’s
reputation for excellence in academics and athletics and
its commitment to Catholic values and service are well
known and exemplified through its students and alumni
in and beyond the Detroit area.”
Dr. Garibaldi saw Brother Rice students in action when he greeted them at the University of Detroit Mercy’s 23rd Annual
Technology Discovery Day Event. Future scientists and engineers including 21 Brother Rice students attended UDM’s College
of Engineering & Science “S.T.E.M.” event which provides an opportunity for high school students to learn about engineering
and science through a variety of hands-on, engaging displays, demonstrations and competitions. Dr. Garibaldi will make a
difference in the lives of students, faculty and staff at Brother Rice through his commitment to the board. Pictured with the team
