The fall sports season was highlighted
Athletics
by the Football team capturing the school’s 63rd State
Championship, but was a great team effort with all sports
bringing home trophies and awards.
Football
Legendary Coach Albert Fracassa retired
the right way winning his 10th state title
and 3rd in a row. Collecting 430 wins
in his career, he led this year’s team to a
14-0 season that culminated with a 38-21
victory over Muskegon in the state final.
Jason Alessi ’14 was named to the Dream
Team while Sage Baltrusaitis ’14 and Alex
Malzone ’15 were named 1st Team All
State. Coach Dave Sofran ’96 received
special recognition as the architect of an
offense that shattered the Brother Rice
and MHSAA record books. More football

edition.
Soccer
A young squad showed tremendous promise
opening the season winning the inaugural
Crusader Cup in Cincinnati, OH. They went
on to open the district with a 3-0 victory over
Southfield Lathrup, but fell in their next game
to eventual state finalist, Bloomfield Hills
High School, on a shootout on the game’s 6th
shooter. Garrison Schilling ‘14 was named
All Catholic while Hunter Mejaly ‘14 & Michael
Stroud ‘14 were named All League. Connor
Pollock ‘14 was named All Academic.
Cross
Country
Coach Bob Stark ’64 lead the squad to 4-0 record in the
Catholic League, a 2nd place finish at the CHSL meet and
victories at the Athens Red Hawk Invitational, The Linden
Invitational and a 4th place finish in the state regional
meet. John Penington ’15 qualified for the state meet and
was named All State, All Region, All County, All Catholic
and All Central Division. Penington was joined by Alfred
Girardot ‘14 and Will Markely ‘14 on the All Central Division
Team while Markley and Chris Nodland ‘15 were also
named All Catholic.
Tennis
The team won the CHSL, District and Regional Championships again, but barely missed the program’s 9th
state title. They finished with 28 points to eventual winner Ann Arbor Huron’s 30. Joey Hildebrand ‘14 and
David Weatherford ‘14 won #2 doubles flight. Brendan Dillon ‘15 and Joe Paradiso ‘15 won #3 doubles flight.
Connor Parks ’14 and George Hamaty ’15 #1 doubles, Patrick Hamill ‘15 and Dan Lunghamer ‘15 #4 doubles
and Jack Winkler ‘17 #4 singles finished as runners up. Blake Hildebrand “14 (1S), Connor Parks ’14 and
George Hamaty ’15 (1DBLS), and Joey Hildebrand ’14 and David Weatherford ’14 (2DBLS) were named All
State.
