Houston Leadership Development Hosted by the Outreach Center of West Houston
On June 14, 2019 the Outreach Center of West Houston, a local 501-3(c), hosted a flex
cast of the largest one-day leadership event in the world, Leadercast 2019. Over 100 local
business and community leaders attended the event at the venue of Memorial Drive
Presbyterian Church. Participants thanked the Center for hosting such an inspiring and
motivating event.
Jon Peters, local Houstonian, and author of When Life Grabs You by the Baseballs, was
the keynote speaker. Jon is known to the local community for being the United States’
record holder for the most consecutive wins (fifty-three) by a high school pitcher in 1989.
He was also the first high school baseball player to be featured on the cover of Sports Il-
lustrated. After being accepted at Texas A&M on a baseball scholarship, Jon had to give
up his lifelong dream of professional baseball due to four arm surgeries in his college ca-
reer. At Leadercast he shared a universal message: “no matter what dreams you’ve lost
or what demons you’re battling, you too can find that same hope, happiness, and pur-
pose.”
Committed to leading and building healthy team leaders in Houston, the Outreach Cen-
ter has hosted this annual event for the past 7 years. This year's Leadercast theme of
Leading Healthy Teams featured global leadership experts Andy Stanley, speaker and
best-selling author; Juliet Funt, Founder, WhiteSpace at Work, Speaker; Dr. Caroline Leaf,
Communication Pathologist & Cognitive Neuroscientist; Marcus Samuelsson, Award-
Winning Chef, Restaurateur, Author and TV Personality; Craig Springer, Executive Director
of Alpha USA; Carla Harris, Vice Chairman, Managing Director and Senior Client Advisor,
Morgan Stanley; Ginger Hardage, Founder, Unstoppable Cultures; Former VP at South-
west Airlines; Patrick Lencioni, Founder, The Table Group, Author & Speaker; and Gayle
King, Co-Host, CBS This Morning and Editor-at-Large, O, The Oprah Magazine
