Fragrances have a way of triggering memories, whether good or bad, lifting your mood and generally make you smell irresistible. My favourite memories stems from the smell of the earth after the rain, I don’t think there’s anything better than that, maybe the smell of good food, that’s a close second. To me, fragrance is a part of who you are, announcing your arrival without you having to say a word. The same fragrance will smell different on everyone due to our unique body chemistry, ph balance and even diet. Also remember that when you test a fragrance on a blotting paper in store, it’s not necessarily what it would smell like once sprayed on your skin.

You might have noticed that a fragrance would smell different after a few minutes of wear and that’s because fragrances are divided into 3 notes: Top, heart and base.

Top note:

They are the opening notes of a fragrance and generally the lightest of all the notes. They are recognized immediately upon application of the perfume and are the first to fade but it doesn’t take away from its importance.

Common top notes: Citrus, light fruits and herbs.

Heart note:

Also known as the middle note, it makes an appearance once the top notes evaporate. The middle notes are considered the heart of the fragrance and last longer than the

top notes and have a strong influence on the base notes to come.

Common heart notes: Combination of fruity or floral tones and sometimes infused with spices.

Base note:

The base notes are the final fragrance notes that appear once the top notes are completely evaporated and their job is to provide a lasting impression.

Common fragrance base notes: Cedar and sandalwood, vanilla, amber, patchouli and musk

If you know what they like, kudos to you as human beings tends to be creatures of habits.
