Chef Kabelo Segone

"Kabelo Segone was born in the North West Province and attended Town View High School in Krugersdorp. During this time he worked at a number of local restaurants in the area and after matriculating he went to further his studies at Birnam Business College where he obtained his first qualification in Hospitality Studies Diploma in Hotel Management.

He ventured of to gain more knowledge and returned to North West to the School of Tourism Tshwane Branch. He did his Apprenticeship at Damark Caterers as the Sous Chef, as well as the Executive Sous Chef at Avon Justine. Damark placed him onto the 3-Year In-Service Apprenticeship Programme at Hospitality Trainers and Associates (HTA) to obtain a formal qualification in Professional Cookery.

Kabelo entered the In-Service Chef of the Year Competition where he placed second. Having a passion for education and cooking, upon completion of the course he was employed by HTA as a junior lecturer to assist in the deliverance of the 3-Year In-Service Apprenticeship Programme.

Over the past few years Kabelo has worked with some of the most renowned top chefs in South Africa, presenting extremely large functions such as the Vodacom event for numbers of 5000 and assisting with the 702 Walk the Talk catering for 16000.

He also featured in some of the SABC cooking programmes and the D.S.T.V Home Channel. Kabelo is a rising star and had become a familiar face with the public. He had also featured in leading magazines and develops new recipes and menus for hospitality clientele.

With dedication and commitment to Education and Training, he is now the Head of Department in the consultancy sector at HTA. His department delivers training to a number of Hospitality clients. Kabelo has been a director of the South African Chefs Association since 2009 and in 2015 he was selected as one of the Vice Presidents of SA Chefs and is also the brand ambassador of Lucky Star and heads the Weber Grill Academy at HTA. In 2013 he was invited to represent South Africa in the FetAfrik “an explosion of African Aura” as a guest Chef.

With such an impeccable CV, Kabelo will continue to climb the ladder of success and will continue to inspire young Chefs."
