A graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design, the versatile Seth McFarlane is an actor, animator, writer, producer, director, comedian, singer and songwriter. He is most often credited with the creation of the popu- lar cartoon “Family Guy,” which takes place in the Ocean State, as well as the comedic box office favorite Ted. Born in Cumberland, the famous Farrelly brothers, Peter and Bobby, have directed a number of comedy classics including Dumb and Dumber, There’s Something About Mary and Me, Myself and Irene. Many of their mov- ies, including the ones listed above, have Rhode Island connections and feature scenes shot in the Ocean State. At age twenty-six, Providence native Josh Schwartz was one of the youngest people in network history to create a primetime series, Fox’s teen drama sensation “the O.C.,” and handle its day-to-day production. Olympic swimmer Elizabeth Beisel was born in Saunderstown and graduated from North Kingstown High School in 2010. At the 2008 summer Olympics, she placed fifth in the 200-meter backstroke and fourth in the 400-meter individual medley events. At the 2012 summer Olympics, she won a silver medal for the 400-meter individual medley and a bronze for the 200-meter backstroke. She also has since appeared on NBC’s “Survivor.” Four-time world boxing champion Vinny Pazienza, a.k.a. Vinny Paz, a.k.a. the “Pazmanian Devil”, was born and raised in Cranston. After a devastating car wreck in 1991, he was told he may never fight again.
