SPRINGFIELD, MA
(1 hour and 30 minutes from Providence)
The Quadrangle in downtown Springfield is home to five spectacular museums dedicated
to art, history, science and literature. Meanwhile, the Amazing World of Dr. Seuss Museum
explores the life of Springfield native and children’s author Theodor Geisel (the one and only
Dr. Seuss) through whimsical exhibits that bring his iconic stories to life. You can also visit
the Dr. Seuss National Memorial Sculpture Garden in the center of the museum grounds
where stunning bronze sculptures of beloved characters like Horton and the Lorax are
scattered throughout the courtyard. Once you’re feeling puckish, stop by local favorite
Theodores’ Booze, Blues and BBQ for southern-style ribs, brisket, burgers and more.
OLD SAYBROOK, CT
(1 hour and 20 minutes from Providence)
Just a quick train ride away, Old Saybrook, Connecticut, is a pleasant seaside town with a
rich history and much to explore. Spend the day at Harvey’s Beach where you can soak up
the sun and catch some beautiful ocean views. You can also entertain the whole family at
Saybrook Point Miniature Golf, a fun eighteen-hole mini golf course overlooking the water.
For lunch or dinner, stop by the Back Porch Restaurant, located right on the edge of the
Connecticut River, where you can dine on fresh seafood and American cuisine.
