DAYTRIP:
Wickford
Our favorite village by the sea makes shopping for vintage furniture a breeze.

of items at Wickford
Antique Liquidators.
Noon: Start with a visit to the Eclectic Bungalow at the foot of Brown Street, where the spe-
cialty is breathing new life into old dressers and tables. Pieces with good bones from the Victorian
era and beyond are reimagined with chalk paint in palettes of whites, grays and blues. The old
doors refashioned into benches ($375) are a very clever way to be seated. 1 Brown St., Wickford,

12:30 p.m. Stroll to the corner of Brown and Main and peruse a collection of curio cabinets (in
the $200 range) lining the outer walls of Wickford Village Antiques and Collectibles. This
stuffed-to-the-gills shop includes surprising finds like the Victorian hall tree with a carved
spiderweb, complete with spider and its next meal. 93 Brown St., Wickford, 294-1117
1 p.m. The Book Garden’s small but highly curated collection focuses on sweet tables perfect
for that corner in need of attention. Owner Melissa Fisher gravitates towards painted pieces,
with time’s patina of chipped paint and faded colors. Spotted: A folk art Peter Hunt-style saw-
horse table, a painted Sevres porcelain and brass salon table and an oval Italian number painted
a moody green. 99 Brown St., Wickford, 294-3285
1:30 p.m. Lose a good hour at Wickford Antique Estate Liquidators. Two floors of statement
pieces with provenance to match, like the 1920s lounge set from a Cranston speakeasy, or the
massive 1970s bridge-inspired desk from a Boston hotel. On the hunt for Asian antiques? This
is the place. 35 West Main St., Wickford, 787-6373
2:30 p.m. Time to fortify. Shayna’s Place, dead-center on the main drag, hums with villagers
lunching and caffeinating. The rich and chewy banana-coconut-chocolate cookie pairs beautifully
with a cup of spicy lemon-ginger tea. 45 Brown St., Wickford, 294-8740, shaynasplaceri.com
