ANI'S HOSPITALITY CAREER started at
her family's resort on Mackinac Island in
Michigan when she was a teenager. She then
studied art history at Skidmore College, and
went on to receive a cuisine and pastry degree from Le
Cordon Bleu Paris, and an MBA in luxury goods
marketing from Cornell University. Her numerous
hospitality positions held within the Mandarin
Oriental Hotel Group in San Francisco and at The
Chanler at Cliff Walk were balanced with marketing
roles with Plukka in Hong Kong and Henri Bendel in
New York City.

When she took over ownership of The Chanler, she
emphasized service and attention to detail at the
property, based on her training and experiences from
around the world. Her vision and leadership was
rewarded in 2019 when Forbes Travel Guide
recognized both the hotel and Cara, its upscale
restaurant, with the prestigious 4-star distinction.
Today, Lani juggles the responsibilities of an owner
and general manager, but her true passion is design.
Lani sees every space at the mansion as an
opportunity to flex her creative muscles in an
environment where guests embrace sophisticated
interiors that accentuate the hotel's brand. Her eye for
fashion and appreciation of art allow her to guide
each project with perspective and harmony.
It is my hope that The Chanler is a place where guests and local visitors always
feel as if they are coming to the home of a generous friend or relative — to a place
where old world glamour meets modern hospitality. The unique decor and design
elements within each of our twenty guest rooms and public spaces offer a highly
curated treasure trove of artwork, objects and architectural pieces, collected from all
corners of the world, housed together under one roof to evoke nostalgia, luxury and
unforgettable memories.
