CONTRIBUTORS
John Taraborelli
went off in search
of the middle of
nowhere for his
essay this month
[“Everybody
Knows This Is
Nowhere”].
Though (spoiler
alert) he never
quite found it, he did discover that after
a lifetime of living in Rhode Island, there
is still so much to explore. The goal of
his story was to get lost in the far-flung
corners of the state, he says. Unfortunately,
as of press time, his whereabouts were
still very much known.
Living in a few
areas of the
country has given
illustrator Vincent
Zawada [“Every-
body Knows This
Is Nowhere”] the
opportunity to
experience
different places
and environments. Whether exploring
the rivers and mountains in Virginia,
canoeing the waterways along the
Georgia coast, or hiking and fly-fishing
throughout the Rockies in Colorado, he’s
enjoyed the search for solitude, he says.
“Now living in a more urban environment,
I could directly relate to the writer’s
search for ‘nowhere,’ ” he says. “I was glad
I could add a fun visual component.”
Julie Tremaine is
a food and travel
writer who, for
some crazy
reason, decided
to give up eating
for a three-day
juice cleanse as
part of this
month’s cover
story, “Plant Power.” Her first cookbook
debuted last fall and, while she included
a recipe for green juice in it, Julie
recommends eating solid food at some
point the day you drink it. She spends
most of her time on the road, but still
calls Providence home.
