Rhiannon Promotions The Universal Cavalier Special Issue 2013 | Page 27
(Continued from page 26)
He grabbed a saleswoman, told her
that I needed something special to
wear and kept that poor woman
running from floor to floor and
department to department. Then, if
that wasn’t enough the saleswoman
hemmed the skirt and jacket herself
and sent us on our way with a
complete outfit. Lamont then took
me for a quick bite of lunch and back
to the Garden. By that time it was
almost time to go back to the hotel
to shower and get ready for the
evening.
Another dear friend was so worried
that I wouldn’t get back in time to
groom that she did Demi up
beautifully. As we were waiting in the
holding area I realized that I had no
idea the protocol for showing in the
group. Fortunately someone told me
to look for the Cavalier King Charles
Spaniel box and stand in front of it.
The ring looked like two football fields
run together. I remember being
shocked at how far I had to go but I
didn’t need to worry. Demi was in her
“zone” once again. To further stun
me, Mr. Kahn included us as he made
his cut and ultimately awarding us
Group 4. People asked then and still
ask me what it was like and was I
nervous. My answer was then as now
“We were Cinderella for a year and
Demi took me on an “E Ticket” ride of
a lifetime".
As we went through the curtain onto
the floor, Demi took about three
strides, turned around to look at me
as if to say “now this is a dog show”.
She seemed to grow about two
inches and I’m not sure but I thought
I saw her levitate off the floor. She
was in her glory. Very quickly it was
time to stack on the table for Mr.
Gilbert Kahn to examine her. She
handled it like it was what she was
born to do. Then Mr. Kahn asked us
to go half way down and back. That
was the first time I had looked up.
P.S. Yes, we did go to Tiffany’s later
to buy that necklace. Every time I
wear it the memories flood back and a
little of the thrill surfaces.
