Creating Holiday Magic with Oils tSustain

The holiday season is just around the corner. For you this may be the most joyful time of the year; one that you eagerly anticipate. Or the holidays may be an unwelcome, even dreaded, time of year with more responsibilities heaped onto your already-full-plate.

The good news is that we get to choose how we go through the holidays and decide what commitments we will make. Self-care during this time of year is especially important.

Essential Oils are one tool that can help support and sustain you throughout the holiday season, in addition to adding some fragrant merriment to your festivities.

Many of our fondest holiday memories are stored in our brains and activated by our sense of smell. Our sense of smell is 10,000 times more sensitive than any of other our other senses and the strongest link to our subconscious.

That is why smelling fresh gingerbread, for example, can remind you of holiday baking with your mom when you were a wee one. Or the scent of pine trees can remind you of being in the mountains or searching for the very best Christmas tree with your family.

How many times have you smelled something and remarked, "Do you know what that reminds me of?"

Essential Oils have both a physical and emotional effect in our bodies depending on their chemical composition. For example, they can have a relaxing and calming effect or they may be uplifting and energizing. Most importantly, therapeutic essential oils can help support a healthy immune system which is key during the winter cold and flu season.

One of my best-loved and often used essential oil blends is called “On Guard” and as the name implies, it helps

guard against environmental and seasonal threats to support healthy immune function. OnGuard is a proprietary blend of Wild Orange, Clove Bud, Cinnamon, Eucalyptus and Rosemary Essential Oils.

For you science nerds, here is a link to a research paper showing how OnGuard suppresses the influenza virus: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2994788/

OnGuard Essential Oil blend is also one of my favorite oils to diffuse in my office during the winter season. It has a spicy aroma and antimicrobial properties.

An easy and immediate way to bring holiday scents into your home is by making room sprays with essential oils. Unlike the toxic room sprays sold in the supermarket, the following sprays are all-natural and they make wonderful holiday gifts.
