If you’re going out somewhere special, or you’re trying to impress a new girl / boy friend, you don’t turn up unwashed, hair unbrushed, clothes torn and tatty do you? ( I hope!) So why, when you’re trying to impress a future employer, would you not take the same care and trouble over the appearance of your curriculum vitae and letter of application? Take these two examples: Hi, Im applying for ur job as i think i am the rite person to work for you Ive done lots of management work and would fit in reply well to you’re place Dear Mr. Mason, I wish to be considered for the role of manager, advertised in The Daily Press yesterday. I am a fully qualified and experienced manager, as you may see from my enclosed CV. I also enclose three references, detailing the role I have played in diverse managerial positions. 7 Anyone looking at these would automatically bin the first, but be tempted to look more closely at the second. Don’t forget, in any sphere of work, you will be up against several other people, all equally qualified and experienced. You need to ensure that your letter stands out you are selling yourself and need to present your suitability for the role in the best way possible. This doesn’t mean with wacky coloured ink or paper, decorated round the edge - but a formal style, with attention to detail, accuracy, spelling and punctuation.
