I realise that, for some of you, the very idea of opening a work of
fiction, or even (heaven forfend) poetry, is a complete anathema
(look it up!)
However, even in our fast-paced, technological world, there is still
an important role for books and reading. Books (or Kindle downloads if you really can’t bear the thought of old-fashioned paper)
can give you much-needed time out; they can awaken your imagination and introduce you to characters and worlds you’d never
dreamt of; they can educate you; they most definitely will improve
your spelling and use of language.
So, assuming you’re still with me, here follows a short list of books I
think everyone should read by the time they’re 25:
