Fastjet to fly Harare-Bulawayo route

Fastjet will commence daily flights between Harare and Bulawayo from July 20.

Ticket sales are open, with a special launch fare.

The airline’s chief executive, Nico Bezuidenhout said: “Fastjet has been pursuing this route designation for several years. We are delighted to see that positive changes in the Zimbabwean environment made this development possible, enabling low-fare connectivity between more domestic destinations.”

SA: Unabridged Birth Certificate Requirement remains for travelling families

Parents travelling with children will continue to require Unabridged Birth Certificates, despite recent media reports claiming the contrary.

Confirmation was received from Home Affairs that families travelling still require “full birth certificates” despite a recent announcement by the Department of Home Affairs that their modernisation drive would eliminate the need for Unabridged Birth Certificates.

The Department of Home Affairs announced it would roll out Child Passports, including the names of parents, in December 2016. Following media reports, Home Affairs spokesperson David Hlabane has confirmed that the date for these to be rolled out are still to be announced and “full birth certificates” will still be required.

Qantas Regional Manager Africa Michi Messner confirms that the airline will continue to ask travellers to produce the Unabridged Birth Certificate when travelling with children. Qantas, she says, will be guided by an official communication from the Department of Home Affairs should this be changed and this has yet to be received.

“Until these child passports are rolled out and travellers are in possession of these, the requirement of presenting the birth certificate remains. Failure to present these to airline check-in staff and passport control will mean your family will be denied boarding.”
