ordered. She kissed Ashley's cheek then
exited the room, Lil Dave and her mother
in tow.
She didn't want to leave her twin but it was
only right that she gave the new parents
time to bond. She stopped walking and
turned around to her fiancée.
"Let's go home, babe. This son of
yours has kicked my ass and celebrated
more than me when Charity popped out,
killing my eardrums with her wailing," she
blurted out, tickling her mother.
Melissa laughed out loud,
interrupting the quiet of the birthing unit.
"Oh gosh, I'm sorry but that was funny.
I'm going to head home and get some rest.
I'll see you all tomorrow."
"Ok mom. I love you," Aubrey
followed, kissing her mother on the cheek.
"Alright, Ms. Crenshaw. I'll see
you tomorrow," Lil Dave interjected,
hugging his soon-to-be mother in law.
"Y'all go straight home and text
me when you're settled," Melissa
instructed.
"Ok." Ashley grabbed Lil Dave's
arm and wobbled out of the hospital's exit,
exhausted.
She'd been at the hospital since
her twin sister started having contractions
ten hours ago. Her body was beat. Her feet
were pained. Her uterus was going crazy
as her son protested the happiness of his
cousin being born today. After watching
her sister transform into a mother within
hours, she knew that she was ready to take
on whatever motherhood brought about.

Ashley looked at Gary, and ran
her eyes up and down the length of his
body. After one year, he still wasn't
becoming the man that she knew he could
be. After losing his job and being evicted
from his aunt's basement, Ashley allowed
him to move in to help with their child.
She didn't expect his presence to bother
her during the pregnancy and she hoped
that her overbearing hormones were settled
enough to allow him a chance to be a great
father.
Gary pulled his head up from his
daughter and genuinely smiled. It was a
vision that Ashley hadn't seen in months
and it tugged at her heart.
"Why you looking at her like
that?" Ashley queried, breaking the deadly
silence in the suite.
"Because I'm marveled at what
we created. She has your lips and eyes.
She's perfect," Gary admitted.
Butterflies fluttered in Ashley's
tummy as she listened to her child's father.
His words touched her soul as she watched
the bond being created by father and
daughter.
"She got your big ass forehead,
tho," Ashley shot back then laughed.
Gary shot his child's mother a
middle finger then smirked. "Big ass brain
like her daddy, too."
Ashley cocked her head to the
side and rolled her eyes. "Clearly, the
intelligence came from my genes."
"Anything to make you sleep at
night, baby mama. But you did good, yo.
I'm sorry I wasn't here."
Ashley gazed at Gary without
words or any emotion. She studied his face
trying to figure out how she got here. She
recalled a year ago when they first met,
and how he swept her off of her feet within
twenty-four hours.
"Aye, Red, check it out," an
unknown voice yelled from an idle car.
Ashley turned around, frown lines
painted in her forehead, as she scanned
the mall's parking lot for the disrespectful
owner of that cat call. Finding nothing,
she began to continue her stride into the
mall.
"Red, don't act like that," the
voice yelled.
Ashley turned around, ready to
chew someone to shreds before her eyes
caught sight of the finest man in the city:
Gary Brock. She'd been waiting for him to
notice her since she was eighteen years
old. With her 20th birthday tomorrow, she
thanked the Universe for the early
birthday gift.
"What's up?" she seductively
greeted, flashing her million-dollar smile.
"Oh, you checking for me now? I
just tried to get at you but you kept
walking," Gary added.
"You needed a better
presentation. This is better," she informed
him.
He chuckled. "Yeah I guess.
What's up with you? Aren't you one of
Melissa twins?"
Ashley cocked her head to the
side and stared. "Excuse me but how old
are you to call my mom by her
government?"

Gary fell into laughter. "Baby
girl, I know everything. Which twin are
you? I got a fetish for Ashley," he
admitted, rubbing his hands together while
licking his lips.
Ashley instantly blushed as a
flood of emotions raced to her inner
haven. She didn't want to let him win that
easy so she used her twin powers to push
all of his buttons.
"Ashley?" she repeated. "I don't
know about that. You seem like a lame.
You might bore her," she joked.
Gary looked her up and down
with a smirk. "Yeah I'm lame as fuck but I
bet she becomes my lame ass baby mama."
He reached into his pocket and pulled out
a few bills. He looked her in the eyes then
stuffed the bills in her shirt. "I put money
on that!"
He turned and walked away,
leaving Ashley in a daze. After all of these
years that she crushed on Gary, all it took
was one conversation to lock her in for
life. She removed the money from her shirt
and placed it in her purse. Gary didn't
provide his phone number but Ashley knew
exactly where to find him.
Ashley blinked back the tears as
she watched her daughter and her man.
Although he was a headache, she wouldn't
trade him in for anything. She'd fought the
extra bitches, and held him down while he
did nine months in the county jail. Now
that Charity was here, she expected
unwavering loyalty, and for Gary to be
who she fell in love with.
Gary looked up and caught her
eyes. "What?" he asked.
"Us. Our family is finally
complete."
Gary nodded his head with an
arch pasted in the middle of his face,
showcasing his open faced bottom grill
that made his smile that much brighter.
Aubrey took the bad with the good and
still thanked the Universe for her miracles.
