The Reason for Reviews
by Author Co Kane
Being an author can become tiresome when
you don’t receive the recognition that you
think you deserve. Whether it is from the
literary industry as a whole, or from your
customers through reviews, word of mouth
through reviews always bring about new
customers. Whatever the industry or line of
work, reviews boost promo, and that in turn
produces more sales. The 10 main reasons
for review are simple: they break down why
reviews are important for an author’s longterm goals in the industry.
Reason #1: Friends don’t let friends read
bad books. Writing and sharing book
reviews is a community service to all of your
reading buddies. Everyone wants to know
about the next best book and NO ONE
wants to waste their time with a badly
written and horrible plot book. Help a book
brother and sister out and write that review!
Reason #2: Aspiring authors should always
write reviews, hence readers becoming
authors. The late Stephon King encouraged
everyone to read as much as they could and
I agree! But let’s take it a step further; lets
read critically, and figure out what makes
the book great or terrible and provide

not mention to others.
Reason #7: One good, honest and thorough
review foreshadows a negative review.
thorough reviews, whether they seem to be
harsh or not. They must be honest. Your
writing will benefit from this process and so
will other authors.
Reason #8: Positive ranking plays into the
booksellers’ process. More sales and more
review equals higher ranking and exposure
to more book buyers.
Reason #3: Writing and sharing a book
review is a huge plus and help for the writing
and reading community. You help readers
who share the same tastes about a certain
genre discover a great book and you help
the author by providing valuable feedback.
Reason #9: Leaving a review for a certain
genre of books helps all authors in that
genre. Clicking that LIKE button gives
reviewers from the same genre more reason
to purchase, read and review your book as
well as hikes that particular review up the
list of reviews. Part of the process is the “If
you liked this, then you might like that”
book recommendations. This is for the
debut novel or authors with a smaller
following.
Reason #4: Over 85% of all Amazon Kindle
readers rely heavily on book reviews before
choosing to purchase your book. An honest
review helps other readers determine if the
book is for them. Honest reviews may seem
as if they're not supportive but their purpose
is for the author to use those
recommendations for next book, if need be.
Reason #5: Your review helps customers
with the same tastes discover a new book
and/or new author, and you help the author
by providing valuable feedback.
Reason #6: A thorough review points out
other aspects of the book, some good and
some need improvement, that the
marketing
Reason #10: More reviews get authors
exposed to other book review teams,
increases readership, puts blogging
communities on alert, and makes you more
appealable to book clubs. More reviews
equal more sales for authors and more
informed readers. It doesn’t take much to
write a few lines about a book you read and
even less time to “like” a review.
