The session started with about a 15 minute preview of the next episode and then the introduction of the cast members present. Each
member warmly met the crowd, smiled and waved. The Co-Creator and Executive Producer Hank Steinberg started with explaining
the show's premise, shooting locations, and where they hope to go in the future. The Comic-Con MC asked the panel a few questions
about their characters and how they fit into their roles. The interesting part was that no members of the cast, with the exception of
Adam Baldwin and Jocko Sims, had performed in a military setting before. Adam is well remembered from his role as a US Marine
in the movie Full Metal Jacket and Jocko Sims with his role in Jarhead.
The floor was opened up for questions from the audience. Many of the questions were based on specific episodes and where the
show was headed in the future. There are many different plots going on at the same time which always makes for a great series and
this series has them all. Questions were raised about the future of spreading the cure, the affair between Travis’ and Marissa’s
characters and their expected baby, crew members search at their home base for family members who may have survived, with
rebuilding the nation and the world. The last episode prior to this meeting had shown the USS Nathan James making it back to
Norfolk Naval Base after breaking free from rogue government officials in Baltimore. Arrival back at Norfolk found additional
military personnel who had survived the plague. Captain Chandler was the ranking surviving officer when he arrived and organized
surviving pilots who were there to fly the vaccine to different locations in the country and allied nations, and to help spread the
treatment and look for friendly labs to help produce more vaccine. It then went to the personal challenges of the crew members in
searching for their families, hoping that some had survived, and giving any survivors in the area the vaccine. It created a moral
dilemma for the crew, including the captain and XO when they went off deciding whether they should just leave the ship, and in the
case of the captain, to stay with his surviving family members, while the XO struggled over whether or not to continue searching for
his family who had left before his arrival. This feeling was felt by other crew members as well.
When the episode ended it showed the crew all returning with the sense of duty that they needed to complete the mission and the
mission is to save and rebuild the country, if not the world.
Some of the questions that attendees asked were to be expected such as, “Will there be a season 3?” “Will Travis and Marissa’s
characters get married? What about their baby?” “Will the XO Adam Baldwin’s character find his family?” “Will Jocko’s
character become involved with the woman who was with Israeli Special Forces they had met in Norfolk?” And a really big question
for many fans... “Will Dr. Scott (Rhona Mitra) hook up with Tex?”
