Developing the concept behind Through the Guides, we wanted a film about fly fishing, but, at the same time, wasn’t actually about the fish at all. When Paul, Russel, and I were talking about our idea, we realized that what made us think about fly fishing every single day wasn’t the fish, but the people we fished with. The stories we told and re-told amongst our friends were more about the friends we fished with than the fish we actually caught. This was the realization that solidified our film and made us want to make something that felt “different”.
