Revive - A Quarterly Fly Fishing Journal | Page 54

Tying in hand does have its fun advantages amidst its dreaded learning curve. I have tied flies on the riverbank, tied in a raft floating through a set of Deschutes River rapids, tied in vehicles on their way to famed rivers, tied in a tent during a desert thunderstorm, tied in a theater before the lights dimmed, tied at amusement parks, tied in bed, on the couch, in the hammock...you get the picture, the list goes on. A little prep work of materials, a hook, silk thread, a pair of scissors, and maybe some hackle pliers (if you so choose) and you are set to tie anywhere you might feel comfortable. It adds a certain dimension of not only dreaming about fishing wherever you go, but also living out your angling daydreams!
