Soon this particular aura will grab hold of your senses and when you begin to get lost in the mystery of this salty oasis, your 8wt rod suddenly jerks, almost getting ripped out of your hand most likely not by a serpent but possibly the largest trout of your life. Along with all the strange mystery and lore is this solid fact: These are the largest cutthroat trout in the world. These brutes are now pushing over 25 pounds. Yes pounds, not inches. Casting 7-9wt rods head on into 20-30 mph winds, pummeled by 2-4 foot rollers. Tuff it out to be hammered by a grab then feeling a deep bend with big, slow head shakes. Game on from there and make sure you don't get spooled by the three foot long leviathan. Mega trout like these Lahontan Cutthroat are the reason that at certain times of the year we bare freezing cold temperatures, 70 mph gusts, blizzards blowing sideways and surfable swells. Once in hand to look into the eye of these fish and appreciate the rich and mysterious history. This is what brought some friends together, to put together a team of some of the most knowledgeable, some of the most hardcore and dedicated, and some of the most techy people to build what is now Pyramid Fly Company, the lakes only full service outfitter. We built the dream team to show off but more importantly to work with the tribe to help protect THEIR water. Being able run PFC out of Crosby lodge in Sutcliffe was a blessing, the owners are the most hospitable people one can encounter and now we are one great team.
