Where are you from? Etc, etc. But ask a guide a personal question, a real personal question, and that’s when you get to know them.

“What fishing season do you look forward to most, You know to fish yourself?”

Without hesitation, and with emphatic resolve;

“Smallmouth Bro! Gotta be smallmouth! Those things are just crazy and pissed off.”

I had lived my fly fishing life to get out west and chase the inhabitants of beautiful unmolested rivers in Montana and Wyoming and these guys are telling me that they would go chase fish that I can find in my home state?
