This was the first time she had a full Quran
to read. She began reading it to draw closer to
God. She read verses that permit men to beat
their wives. For the first time, her eyes were
open and she understood why her father used
to beat her mother, and why her first husband
was violent. She stopped reading the Quran,
but still followed Islamic traditions.
oldest child of eight in a poor family that
strictly followed the Tunisian Muslim traditions.
Her parents used to fight constantly and never
showed affection or attentiveness toward their
children. Therefore, M. felt rejected and always
compared herself as inferior to others.
M. left school at the age of 12 because of
health and financial reasons. She stayed at
home with nothing to do, so she decided to
talk to God.
When she was 13, her mother explained to
her that on the Night of Power (Laylat Al- Qadr
in Ramadan) whoever steps out in faith and
expectation of Allah’s reward, will have all their
prayers answered. M. eagerly waited for that
night, even though she was afraid! All she
wanted was to ask Allah to make her father a
wealthy king so she could become a princess.
She had faith that Allah would answer her
prayers and that she would live in a palace. On
that ‘holy’ night, she dressed in white and sat
on their doorstep, with a letter she wrote to him
in her hand. She stayed up the whole night with
no results, but she never lost her faith.
Later, she married a man 18 years older
than her and moved to France. Her husband
was aggressive, uncaring, and illiterate. He
mistreated her and threatened to kill her. M. fled
the house with her three children. Eventually,
she found a job and bought a house. She
married a Frenchman who loved her and
converted to Islam to marry her. She gave birth
to two more children. People praised her for
leading her husband to Islam. The local imam
gave M. and her husband a Quran to read.

She later met a French Christian woman who
became friends with her. M. had many friends
who betrayed her before, but felt that this
woman was different. The French lady invited
her to a ladies’ meeting. She went there and
saw the women praying and praising God.
She heard an Algerian woman’s testimony and
could not hold back her tears. She felt torn
between her desire to have a real relationship
with God, and the impossibility of being able
to change her religion. She was afraid of what
people would say if she converted, especially
after her parents rejected her marriage.
She later heard more testimonies of women
coming to Christ in Saudi Arabia and even of
Muslim clerics coming to Christ. In her heart,
she gave her life to Jesus.
Through watching Christian TV channels
and the KingdomSat, while her husband
was out working, she learned how to live as
a Christian. She also studied the Bible and
Quran thoroughly, listened to many sermons
and learned many worship songs. She
contacted the team and shared her story
and her prayer requests. ❖
